“Microsoft” phone call scam spreading to Switzerland
We weren’t the first ones to get a call from an Indian-sounding guy saying he was from “Windows” (later he gave the name of his company as Global Intelligent Tracking Services) and contracted by Microsoft to call us and fix something on our computer. It seems like the scam’s been around in the US for a while, and the Swiss government has a post warning of this scam. I can add that their phone number showed up as 001 253 802 0308, a US number with plenty of complaints filed against it.

The guy also said something about an ID number for the computer, CLSID 00C04FD7D062, or maybe it was the “Windows CLS ID number.”

Got a call like that and the scammer claimed he was from Microsoft. He sounded very professional. He talked well and he knew all about computers. But he kept asking for remote access to my computer so he could fix the problem. Very pushy guy.
Well what gave him away was the fact that I don’t have a Windows computer. I got a mac.
So I took the caller’s phone number and reported him to http://www.callercenter.com for trying to scam me.

We were a little confused that he spoke English when the OS on our newest Windows computer is German.
